Old City Philadelphia Flowers – Hana & Posy

Hana & Posy – Philadelphia Florists

Hana & Posy's philosophy comes from the company's founder, Kayo Higashimura. Kayo is a veterinarian by training. In addition to having run a veterinary hospital in the South Jersey area, Kayo has worked at the National Zoo in Washington D.C., cared for many rescue animals, and treated pet exotics such as birds and reptiles. A native of Japan, Kayo has lived in Tanzania and Europe and brings these stylistic influences to her store. The idea for Hana & Posy originated from Kayo's desire to be more eco-friendly in her own life. She saw the need for a place where people could find eco-friendly alternatives without having to sacrifice style, quality, or functionality. Kayo wanted to establish a company in which searching for and making eco-friendly choices was an integral part of the company's philosophy. Kayo and the Hana & Posy team take pride in finding the best eco-friendly products and flowers and running an eco-friendly business.

What's in the name?

"Hana" means, "flower" in Japanese.
"Posy" is a term commonly used for "bouquet" in England. Many of our floral arrangements have European stylistic influences.

How we are green?

Hana & Posy's retail space was built using "eco" materials including reclaimed wood flooring, 3form® panels made from ecoresin (a recycled content product), melamine shelving and wall units, and zero-VOC (volatile organic compound) paint. Our office supplies, such as our business cards, use 100% post-consumer recycled paper and are printed with soy and vegetable based ink. All of the cleaning supplies used in the store are green products. Floral preservatives used in our flower arrangements are environmentally friendly and we compost excess floral stems to minimize landfill waste.

Who is Solo?

Solo was rescued from an abandoned building in the City of Camden where she was found tied up with a metal chain with significant injuries. After Solo was brought to the veterinary hospital Kayo was running, she received extensive treatment and was nursed back to health over 3 months. Solo was eventually adopted by Kayo and has been living a suburban dog's dream. It is a big change for her to be in a city again but she loves people and will fit right into pet-friendly Old City. She is looking forward to starting her blog on hanaposy.com. Leashed pets are welcome at Hana & Posy where they can help their owners chose from a variety of eco-friendly pet products and food.
