Vintage and Eco-friendly Weddings at Historic Venues in and around Philadelphia

Posted by: Hana and Posy Posted Date: 06/14/2011

Like a page torn from history these vintage garden-inspired weddings were whimsical and rustic. Featuring lovely, simple blooms in a style that looked like they were just gathered from a June garden, these arrangements were designed in mason jars, vintage milk glass, and antique bottles.

The weddings took place outdoors at Colonial Dames in Center City Philadelphia, Bartram’s Gardens in West Philadelphia, the Audubon Center in Mill Grove and at Valley Green Inn along the Wissahickon in Fairmount Park. The eco-friendly flower arrangements complemented these outdoor historic venues and the simple elegant look that the couples desired to write the next chapter for the rest of their lives together.  Another bonus to getting married at a location like these is the ability to support a non-profit that you care about.  What better way to start things off in life than a gift to a favorite location that supports wildlife or horticultural exploration or historic preservation?

Spring Wedding Season

Posted by: Hana and Posy Posted Date: 04/02/2011

Spring wedding season is right around the corner here at Hana & Posy. The cherry blossoms are blooming, the daffodils are poking their heads out of the ground, and after March went out like a lion, we are now looking forward to warmer temperatures in April. Our wedding line-up is shaping up to look like quite a busy spring season. Our brides have visions for weddings from vintage garden party at the Colonial Dames to cocktail chic speakeasy at the Chestnut Club and everything in between. Their ideas for wedding flowers range from eco-friendly local tulip centerpieces to lush peony and orchid bridal bouquets. Some of the venues are close to our Old City Philadelphia shop, like the Moshulu floating nearby in the Delaware River and others are farther away, like the the woods of Riverbend Environmental Center in Gladwyne. We even have brides stopping in on their way to Philadelphia City Hall to pick up a bridal bouquet on their way to say their nuptials. We will update you on all the details as they happen. Until then, enjoy the weather!

Hana & Posy Creates Vintage Chic Wedding Flowers at the Bellevue for NFL Running Back Steve Slaton and His High School Sweetheart

Posted by: Hana and Posy Posted Date: 02/24/2011

Hana & Posy, Philadelphia’s eco-friendly florist, is happy to open our 2011 Philadelphia wedding flower season with the marriage of Houston Texans NFL Running Back Steve Slaton to his high school sweetheart Kim in a romantic ceremony at the Hyatt at the Bellevue. The couple returned to their hometown of Philadelphia and chose Gina Sole of The Wedding Planner to facilitate their big day. We partnered with Gina to create their vision for vintage chic wedding flowers and décor with details ranging from lighting and linens to candelabras and cloches.

The ceremony took place moments after dusk with the room awash in a palette of soft creams and whites up-lit with the glow of floating candles. The couple said, “I do” beneath a lace and organza draped canopy featuring billowing white hydrangea and creamy Mythos garden roses.

The romantic mood was carried through to the place card table in the foyer of the Grand Ballroom of the Bellevue with more floating candles and pillar-candled antique silver vases strewn with rose petals to enhance the beautiful place cards designed by The Papery, a stationary store, also located in Old City Philadelphia right up the block from our eco-friendly flower shop.

Punctuating the cocktail hour were petite silver julep cups filled with blue thistle, garden roses, and spray roses in dainty clusters on all the balcony cocktail tables. The Grand Ballroom was transformed into the couple’s inspiration for a vintage chic space. We set the tables with blue and ivory linens, featuring a blue toile at the head tables to introduce a vintage vibe. The newlyweds decided to use a combination of seven centerpiece options including antique umber bowls, silver julep cups & pedestal bowls, lace-wrapped cylinder vases, tall mercury vases with branches & hanging votives, and glass garden cloches. These unique pieces were introduced to the couple at their initial wedding flower consultation with us in our Old City Philadelphia flower shop. The centerpieces were filled with different combinations of blue hydrangea, white anemone, Juliet & Patience garden roses, peach spray roses, dried lotus pods, blue thistle, dusty miller, and spring bulb flowers for an abundant display of depth and texture to fit the vintage garden chic style the couple dreamed about.

Congratulations Steve and Kim and many thanks for choosing Hana & Posy as your Philadelphia florist.  Cheers!
