Succulents

Lithops (Living Stones)
Lithops are a perennial succulent. Each year they grow a new pair of “leaves” and the previous set will shrivel.

Water: Lithops enter their dormant cycle in the late spring and early summer. During this time they will require less watering-water them once every two weeks and mist them superficially once every week in the morning. When The dormant cycle is over start watering more frequently. Note: Soil should not stay wet for more than 3 days in a row.

Light: Provide the lithop with 4 hours of sunlight or 6 hours of indirect sunlight.

Dormancy: Dormancy will usually end at the beginning of September.  The end of dormancy is also marked by an enlarged fissure with new growth pushing out of it.  Continue to expose the succulent to 4-6 hours of sunlight.

Lithops enjoy low humidity, good air movement, terra cotta pots with fast draining soil. Plants receiving too much water and not enough light will often grow out of the soil.

Echeveria

Echeveria succulents, sometimes called “hens and chicks”, come in many colors and shapes. Typically, they form beautiful rosettes and create small offsets that look like the original rosette.

Water: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. It is important to make sure water has not collected on the rosette, as this can cause the plant to rot. Like most succulents, more frequent waterings are required during the summer months, less frequent in the wintertime.

Light: Echeveria succulents like bright and direct sunlight for much of the day.

Temperature: As an indoor plant, the echeveria thrives in normal room temperature.
