How To Measure For A Queen Size Bedspread

A queen-size bedspread is an essential component of any bedroom decor, adding a touch of elegance and warmth to the space. It serves not only as a decorative element but also as a protective layer for the mattress and bedding. Choosing the right size bedspread is crucial to ensure a proper fit and a visually appealing presentation. To measure for a queen-size bedspread accurately, understand the key dimensions and follow these simple steps:

1. Determine the Desired Drop

The first step is to decide on the desired drop of the bedspread. This refers to the length of the fabric that hangs over the sides and foot of the bed. A standard drop is 15-20 inches, creating a classic and balanced look. However, you can opt for a shorter or longer drop depending on your personal preference and the style of your bedroom. A shorter drop, for example, may be preferred for a contemporary or minimalist aesthetic, while a longer drop can add grandeur and formality.

2. Measure the Width and Length

Once you have determined the desired drop, measure the width and length of the bed. For a standard queen-size bed, the width is typically 60 inches and the length is 80 inches. Take accurate measurements of your specific bed, as variations can occur depending on the manufacturer. For example, some queen beds may be slightly wider or longer than the standard dimensions.

3. Account for the Drop

To calculate the total width of the bedspread, add the desired drop to both sides of the bed's width. If you want a 15-inch drop, add 30 inches (15 inches x 2) to the 60-inch width. This gives you a total width of 90 inches.

Similarly, for the length, add the drop to the bed's length. In the example of a 15-inch drop, you would add 15 inches to the 80-inch length, resulting in a total length of 95 inches.

4. Consider Additional Coverage

If you want the bedspread to completely cover the mattress and not show any bedding underneath, add an extra 2-4 inches to the width and length calculations. This allowance ensures adequate coverage and creates a clean and polished look.

5. Measure for Matching Bedskirt

If you plan to use a bedskirt with your bedspread, it's also essential to measure for it. The bedskirt should be long enough to reach the floor and have a drop of at least 14-16 inches. Remember to add the drop to the height of your bed frame to determine the total length of the bedskirt.

Consider using a measuring tape for optimal accuracy and consistency. Mark the measurements on a piece of paper for easy reference. When choosing a bedspread, ensure that the dimensions you measured align with the fabric supplier's size chart.
