Materials:

  • Pine 2x4s (8ft long)
  • Pine 2x6s (8ft long)
  • Plywood (1/2 inch thick)
  • Wood screws (2 1/2 inch and 3 inch)
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint or stain (optional)

Tools:

  • Circular saw
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Clamps

Instructions:

1. Cut the 2x4s and 2x6s to length:

  • Cut the 2x4s to the following lengths: 4 @ 75 1/2 inches, 4 @ 39 inches
  • Cut the 2x6s to the following lengths: 2 @ 76 inches, 2 @ 39 inches

2. Assemble the bed frame:

  • Attach the 2x4s to the 2x6s using wood screws. The 2x4s should be placed on the inside of the 2x6s, flush with the top and bottom edges.
  • Use a level to make sure that the frame is square.

3. Attach the plywood to the bed frame:

  • Cut the plywood to the size of the bed frame. The plywood should fit inside the frame, flush with the edges.
  • Attach the plywood to the bed frame using wood screws.

4. Add storage drawers (optional):

  • Cut the 2x4s to the following lengths: 4 @ 18 inches, 4 @ 36 inches
  • Assemble the drawers by attaching the 2x4s together using wood screws. The drawers should be 18 inches wide and 36 inches long.
  • Attach the drawers to the bed frame using drawer slides.

5. Finishing:

  • Sand the bed frame and drawers to smooth any rough edges.
  • Paint or stain the bed frame and drawers to your desired finish.

Tips:

  • Use a drill to make pilot holes for the wood screws. This will help to prevent the wood from splitting.
  • Use a level to make sure that the bed frame is square. This will help to ensure that the bed is sturdy and comfortable.
  • If you are adding storage drawers, make sure that the drawers are a good fit for the bed frame. The drawers should be able to slide in and out easily without binding.
